Back in 1995 or '96, I owned a white '93 Miata 5 speed. This was after owning a Honda Civic Si that I had autocrossed (SCCA Solo II).. the Miata in stock form outhandled that Civic by a mile. I fell in love with it instantly. However, it wasn't the most 'practical' car in the world.... I ended up selling it after about a year or owning it. During the time I owned it, I quickly discovered that owning a Miata is like being a part of a "brotherhood". Most of the people who own these cars are driving enthusiasts.. people who wants to 'be at one' with the car they're driving. That's where the Miata excels. When you're driving one of these cars, with the top down, through some windy roads in the middle of nowhere, you'll understand what I'm talking about. Especially as you approach the 7000 rpm redline. I regretted selling that car immediately, and that regret stayed with me for the next 10 years. So, a few months ago, that nagging voice in the back of my head got the best of me. I started looking at used Miatas. Things are different now - Emily has a mid-sized SUV, so if we need a "big" car, we have hers... so after some searching, I found this '94 Miata with a hardtop and low miles (56k) for sale down in Redondo Beach (down by LA). I got some details from the seller, along with some good photos, and made the decision to fly down and buy it. I am THRILLED with my decision.
The guy I bought it from had recently added Neuspeed sway bars, a front strut brace, new Bilstein HD shocks, done the brakes, and tires. I quickly added some lowering springs from FlyinMiata.com, a Hard Dog rollbar (required if I plan on putting it on a race track.. which I plan on doing), and 15" Toyota MR2 rims with Falken Azenis tires. The car handles like nothing I've ever driven before... it's amazing. It made me remember how much I truly enjoy driving... not to mention, it's a damn good looking car!
